Green Roofs

Intensive Roof Gardens
Intensive roof gardens include plantings of small and medium shrubs, grassed areas and occasionally trees. They may cover whole areas at the same level, be stepped or form islands. With flexibility of layout and use, they offer just as many possibilities as a garden on the ground. The plants used make substantial demands on the layers, and they require regular watering and feeding. This type of cultivation can only be made to last by regular care.

Extensive Roof Gardens
Extensive roof gardens are areas of vegetation close to those found in nature, and which to a great extent, look after themselves and develop naturally. They require plants that are particularly suitable to extreme conditions and have a high capacity for regeneration. These mainly self-contained areas are made up from mosses, succulents, herbs and grasses. The vegetation is left at the mercy of natural conditions. The costs of establishing Extensive roof gardens are lower than of Intensive ones.

Stretching boundaries with the ultimate green roof

  • Flexiphalte Structural Waterproofing Systems will last for the design life of the substrate they are installed upon and are guaranteed to remain watertight throughout
  • The Diadem Green Roof System from Rock Asphalte offers 300 different components
  • Together they make up the ultimate Green Roof Solution
  • It means that design is limited only by imagination
Why design a green roof?
  • In these days of global warming a green roof will act as an urban lung helping to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen
  • With less and less green space there is a need to absorb rainfall to avoid flash flooding
  • Green roofs look good and enhance the building for the benefit of staff and visitors
  • Once installed, a green roof will add a further level of protection and depending on design, will require little maintenance
Choosing the right type of green roof - Intensive
  • Intensive includes plantings of small and medium shrubs and trees
  • They may cover the whole area at the same level or be stepped to form islands
  • They offer as many possibilities as a garden at ground level
  • BUT – this type of garden requires regular care and maintenance
