Vehicle Decks

The dramatic growth in car ownership and use in the last 40 years has produced unprecedented demand for large parking areas. This demand could only be met by the use of roof top car parking, multi-storey car parks and the use of elevated lorry service decks to deliver goods.

These needed structural waterproofing and the ideal material for this is a paving grade of mastic asphalt laid on a waterproofing grade mastic asphalt. From 1980 roofs over occupied buildings needed insulating. Rock Asphalte pioneered the use of rigid insulation board overlaid with mesh reinforced lightweight concrete to achieve the required "U" value and provide an adequate substrate to receive the mastic asphalt waterproofing and paving membranes.

As with flat roofs there are a number of design specifications for the mastic asphalt paving and waterproofing which will be used in car park decks, including the tough design demands for lorry and truck parking areas on these elevated decks. The example specifications below are from the Rock Asphalte's Flexiphalte Technical Notes RA/2006/Series 10.
